Sažetak
The main aim of the thesis is to discuss how the stream of consciousness is manifested in the text and can it be reproduced in translation. In order to elaborate on this subject, the thesis uses the example of Jack Kerouac’s 1957 novel On the Road. The introductory part of the thesis contains the information on Kerouac’s life and literary influence. In order to define whether there are features of the stream-of-consciousness technique in Kerouac’s novel, the thesis outlines the characteristics of the novels written in the technique in question by authors such as James Joyce. The second part of the thesis develops a theoretical frame based on Antoine Berman’s theory on deforming tendencies which allows interpreting the solutions to the problems imposed by the original and defining the main issues of the Croatian translations carried out by Nada Šoljan and Lada Furlan Zaborac.

Glavni je cilj rada odgovoriti na pitanje kako se struja svijesti odražava u tekstu i može li se reproducirati u prijevodu. U tu svrhu u radu se koristi primjer romana Na cesti Jacka Kerouaca iz 1957. Uvodni dio rada sadrži podatke o Kerouacovu životu i književnom utjecaju. Nadalje, kako bi se utvrdilo postoje li značajke tehnike struje svijesti u Kerouacovu romanu, navedena su obilježja romana napisanih korištenjem ove tehnike autora poput Jamesa Joycea. Drugi dio rada razvija teoretski okvir koji se temelji na teoriji Antoinea Bermana koja omogućuje tumačenje prevoditeljskih rješenja te definiranje problematičnih aspekata hrvatskih prijevoda Nade Šoljan i Lade Furlan Zaborac.
