The paper is based on the analysis of professional literature related to the importance of the benefits of swimming on a person's overall health and on the study of available documents that show the representation of swimming training in the curriculum of Physical Education. The term curriculum encompasses the precise and systematic totality of planned upbringing and education (goals, tasks, contents, organization, methods, media and strategies). The subject Physical Education has, like all other subjects, a separately prescribed curriculum. Physical Education is an integral and mandatory part of the curriculum throughout the schooling and one of the goals is to preserve the health of the population. Physical Education can take place in different ways, and one of them is the implementation of extracurricular activities such as football, basketball, hiking, diving, swimming and others. As for swimming, from a medical point of view, it is one of the healthiest sports. Swimming has no age limit, you can swim from early childhood to old age. Swimming strengthens the musculature, the circulatory and respiratory systems, improves the mental state by reducing anxiety and depression, and has a positive effect on self-confidence and cognitive functions. The aim of this paper is to point out the weak representation of swimming in the curriculum of Physical Education in order to raise awareness of the need to implement swimming training within the school system.
