Articulators are mechanical devices which reproduce the moving of the lower jaw and interjew relations, and are essential part of the diagnostic, planning and making of the prosthodontic appliance. They are divided according to the reproduction of the lower jaw movement into: simple / non-adjustable, articulators of average values, semi-adjustable and fully-adjustable articulators. Considering the structure of the condyle mechanisam they are divided into arcon and non-arcon ones, and according to the manufacturing system they are divided into analog and digital. Nowadays, numerous articulator brands and systems are available, which function with similar parameters. In this paper the following articualtor systems are presented: Artex (Amann Girrbach), SAM and KaVo PROTAR. All of them are in everyday use at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb. Their different looks, size and build give each system particular characteristics which make it stand out. Those include upper and lower jaw elements, adjustment and functioning of mechanical joint and transfer technique of the models into the articulator. Transfering procedure of the upper jaw model and spatial orientation in the articulator with facebow for each articulator system has similar parameters, but the clinical procedure is unique for each system. The purpose of this paper is to offer a systematic overview, and to analyse and compare Artex, SAM and KaVo PROTAR articulator systems, especially their characteristics in the clinical practice.
