Looking from the conduct of foreign policy, the achievements of the Federal Republic of Germany in the post-Cold War period are indeed impressive. With the introduction of the euro, Germany has strengthened its dominant political and economic role in Europe. The Treaty of Maastricht laid the foundations for a common European currency that significantly contributed to European integration. Member States such as France and Germany were the most active advocates of creating a single currency of the euro, which has been in circulation since 1 January 2002. This paper will place the German economy in focus while aiming to show the impact of the single European currency on its economy. Through the outline of the reference framework of the euro area and the most important features of the social market economy based on ordoliberalism, the paper tries to explain two opposing positions regarding the euro and its impact on the German market. Although, the introduction of the euro was not successful in the beginning and it led to the decline of the German economy, the “Agenda 10” reform and the role of Germany in the Greek debt crisis, have eventually led to the positive impact of the euro on the German economy. The German-based export market seeks to track and create trends in the world economy, so it is not surprising that the German economy is the most powerful in Europe.
