The role of the media is to inform the public and place information regarding happenings and events. Information coming to individuals through the media influences public perception and playsimportant role in shaping of overall attitudes. However, media often times will demonstrate disregard of its ethical and moral obligations, where through their way of publishing will violate individual’s basic human rights without thinking of how it affects the public opinion. In the turbulent times in which we live in, premature convictions in the media are common. Laws clearly state where line is drawn concerning privacy, however taking into consideration their desire for a better positioning on the market, media resorts to sensationalism. They are also prone to violations of basic human rights and premature conviction, with no consideration of presumption of innocence. Main purpose of this study was to investigate whether two largest and most relevant daily newspapers contain premature condemnation in their publications, whether they use sensationalism or use unconfirmed sources of information relating to the arrest case of Mr. Milan Bandic, Mayor of Zagreb. 16 editions of daily newspapers (total of 276 articles) were analyzed, and the assumption that the Jutarnji and Vecernji list, in the period from 20 to 27 October 2014, prematurely condemned mayor of Zagreb Mr. Milan Bandic, has been disproven.
