Malignant diseases are one of the most common and significant health issues of today and due to its great mortality rate, experts in this field are trying to find adequate solutions for their prevention and cure. Existing treatments, although useful and very much needed, put the person in an even worse position since they can cause additional jaundice issues that also affect the quality of life. Because of that, within the framework of holistic medicine, the term ‘’integrative oncology’’ is being developed which represents an integration of scientficially tested complementary methods of treatment and evidence – based conventional medicine, all with the aim of improving health and quality of life of the patients. The objective of this thesis was to briefly present some of the most commonly used complementary therapies, but mainly to highlight their effectiveness and use in malignant diseases treatment. Therefore, an overview of the research aimed at considering the influence of various complementary methods on the psychophysical functioning of the patents was conducted. Based on the results of the overview, it can be that complementary therapies enjoy great popularity among oncologic patients and that they are commonly used as a supplement to conventional medicine. Their greatest effect has been seen in decreasing symptoms of anxiety, depression, fatigue, nausea, pain and vomiting, but also in increasing quality of life, relaxation and general wellbeing. These findings open up space for further researches to contribute to the more successful implementation of complementary therapies depending on the clinical picture and the specificity of some malignant diseases.
