There are numerous preservative agents on the market that do not specify technical properties, such as fungicides or application sites. It is precisely the purpose of this paper to compare two different wood preservative systems that manufacturers declare ‘for outdoor use’. The preservative systems would protect the samples, then wear them out in the laboratory, simulating wear in real use, and expose them to the action of pure cultures of the most common lignocollial rot fungi. The fungicidal effectiveness of the protection would be tested and evaluated according to the valid HRN EN norms. The wear resistance in one cycle is higher with the BQ1 + Pflege-Öl system, but with three times more intensive wear, it was found that the oil system wear slightly faster than the stain system (HK-Lasur + HWS112 hybrid coating). The protection effectiveness of both the oil and stain protection system proved to be extremely good in the initial phase against all three tested rot fungi. After single, and especially after triple wear, the protection efficiency decreases of both tested systems, with the efficiency of the oil protection system maintaining a sufficient minimum efficiency for the intended purpose. The test results showed that the oil system should be renewed every three times intensive wear cycles (eg 3 years of walking on wooden floor coverings in the exterior), and the stain system should be renewed after each intensive wear cycle or eg every year.
